Satya Gang :Review

Release date : April 6, 2018
 Rating : 2/5
Starring : Sathvik Eshvar, Akshita
Director : Prabhas Nimmala
Producer : Mahesh Khanna
Music Director : Prabhas Nimmala
Cinematographer: A. Vijay Kumar
Editor : Nandamuri Hari

Continuing the trend of low budget films, yet another movie which has hit the screens today is Satya Gang. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Raj(Satvik) and Satya are two orphans who run the Satya Garage. As time passes by, Raj falls in love with Akki whereas Satya loves Sanju. This is also the time when a dreaded gang in the city creates ruckus all over by committing a lot of murders. The twist in the tale arises when these murder cases fall on both Satya and Raj. Who is this gang? Why are they committing these crimes? and how will Raj and Satya come out as innocents? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
The basic twist in the tale has been narrated quite decently and this is the time the film creates a lot of interest for the audience. Two songs that have been shot in the foreign locations look quite good on screen.
The solution regarding how orphans can find new parents looks quite interesting and has been showcased on a positive note. After a long gap, senior hero Suman gets a good role of an IAS officer. He does a very good job and brings a lot of depth to the proceedings.

Minus Points:
One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is that the main lead looks quite inexperienced. Apart from Suman, Jeeva, and Shafi, rest of the cast does not elevate the proceedings with their acting. Some known actors would have made things better in the film.
Even though the concept prepared by the director is good, he only narrates it during the last 5 minutes of the film. Rest of the proceedings just wander here and there. The film lacks continuity factor as many scenes are cut abruptly.
Too many genres are touched in this film making the proceedings go haywire. What starts as a crime thriller, becomes a love story and then later ends as a social message film which is quite silly.

Technical Aspects:
Music by JB and Prabhas is pretty disappointing. Camerawork by Vijay Kumar is just about okay but the editing work is quite disappointing as the film suffers from continuity factor. Production values of the film are decent and so was the production design. Coming to the director Prabhas, he has done a disappointing job with the film. Just to showcase a small social message, he weaved a story with multiple genres and confused the audience.
Verdict:
On the whole, Satya Gang is a disappointing attempt at making a multi-layered film. The film does not have an interesting point and the lack of continuity and impressive performances disturb the flow of the film. Apart from the basic twist and the last five minutes, this film has nothing much to offer and can be left alone this weekend.

Review : Chal Mohan Ranga Review

Release date : April 5, 2018
Starring : Nithiin, Megha Akash, Rao Ramesh, Prabhas Sreenu
Director : Krishna Chaitanya
Producers : Sudhakar Reddy, Pawan alyan, Trivikram Srinivas
Music Director : S. Thaman
Cinematographer: Natarajan Subramaniam
Screenplay: Krishna Chaitanya
Editor : S R Sekhar

Talented hero Nithiin, who disappointed with his last outing LIE, has come up with yet another romantic drama called Chal Mohan Ranga. Directed by Krishna Chaitanya, the romantic drama has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Mohan Ranga(Nithin) gets separated from his childhood crush Megha(Mega Akash)all of a sudden. He finds out that she is in the US and tries hard to reach her. After a point in time, he somehow manages to enter the US and meets her there. He gets close to her and falls in love with her eventually.
Even Megha has feelings for Mohan but as both of them decide to confront each other, Megha leaves him for good and comes back to India. Rest of the story is as to how Mohan lands in India and wins his love all over again.
Plus Points:
Nithin does a great job in his role of Mohan Ranga. His performance as the helpless guy and the way he generates good comedy through it has come out quite well. Nithin has picked up quite well in the emotional department and carries the film on his shoulders completely.
Megha Akash is cute in her role and does what is required of her. She is especially good in the first half as the funny scenes between her and Nithin have come out quite well.
Dialogues need a special mention as the conversation between the lead pair and the way fun is generated through this looks good. The film has good comedy at regular intervals. Some episodes featuring Rao Ramesh, Narra and Nithin have been executed well and keep things light at times in both the halves.

Minus:
Though the film has decent first half with some good comedy scenes, the lack of depth in the second part is a minus point. The love story is also ages old and has nothing new to offer.
A simple point is dragged for too long by some unnecessary scenes which sidetrack the film. The chemistry between the lead pair is also not up to the mark. The film runs on a flat note during the second part with not much happening during this time.
Lissy does not have much to do and looks confused in the film. Those who expect a solid romantic track between the lead pair will get disappointed as there is no major conflict point in the romance and because of this, the director has concentrated on comedy more.
Technical Aspects:
Music by Thaman is a major plus point as his soulful tunes and impressive background score carries the film’s mood quite nicely. Production values for this limited budget film are superb as all the US and Indian locations have been shot exceptionally well by the cameraman Natarajan. Editing is decent and so was the production design.
Coming to the director Krishna Chaitanya, he starts off the film on a good note through the first half but later his narration lacks the buzz as the story has nothing much in it with not many engaging twists. He makes things better by adding some light-hearted moments here and there but as a complete package, there is not much feel in the love story.
Verdict :
On the whole, Chal Moan Ranga is yet another routine romantic drama which has some good moments here and there. Lovely songs and decent episodes of comedy keep the audience engaged. Storywise, there is nothing much to look forward as this is a film where you need to go with the flow of the proceedings which are kept light-hearted. If you ignore the above-said things and want to watch a simple time pass flick this weekend, this film can be given a shot. But keep your expectations in check.

Mr. X Review

Rating: 2/5 Stars (Two stars)
Star Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Amyra Dastur,Arunoday Singh, Tanmay Bhatt
Director: Vikram Bhatt
What’s Good: The fact that Bhatts know their audiences so well that they know, in spite of serving them a old done to death script with a invisibility cloak, their fans will watch it. The VFX used for the scenes that have Emraan changing his form are actually done neatly and the kids may enjoy seeing it. (P.S: Do not make the mistake of comparing it to Mr. India)
What’s Bad: An extremely cliched script of Mr. X spoils all the fun and at a point you feel that’s what is invisible in the film, its story. The effects are good but not exceptional for 3D. More than half of the scenes, the 3D part is when the gun is being point at your head! Well you pretend to get scared and then yawn!
Loo break: Can you pee if you are bored? Then just go for it!
Watch or Not?: Mr. X will be your type of film for two reasons – a) If you are a fan of Bhatt films b) You are a fan of Emraan Hashmi. If none of the above, don’t bother spending your money on a 3D movie which has no reason to be 3D.
STORY:

Raghuram Rathod (Emraan Hashmi) and his to-be wife Sia Varma (Amyra Dastur) are ATD agents (Anti-terrorist department). The too-much-in love couple after killing a suicide bomber decide to tie the knot so as to secure their future together without the future of losing each other. A day before their wedding, Raghuram and Sia are called upon by their ACP chief Arunoday Singh for a special assignment which calls for the security of the Chief Minister.
Turns out, the assignment is just a trap. Raghuram is wronged by his own department and is forced to assassinate the Chief Minister. After killing the minister, Emraan is killed by the ACP and his men but wait, call it God’s miracle or a scientific experiment, Raghu is still alive but now he is also Mr. X.
Due to the chemicals that react when he is killed in a refinery, the radiation reacts on his body and he can now be visible only in sunlight and blue light. Naturally, he is back to seek revenge from those who wronged him and Arunoday Singh is on his radar. While he is on his journey to vengeance he is not only fighting his enemies but his lady love Sia too, who is under the impression that Raghu is a killer.
Well, what entails is a cat and mouse chase as the department chases Mr. X .

Mr. X Review: Script Analysis

This is a typical Bhatt drama from the start. There are many loopholes in the story and to start with, in the first scene itself, we see our lead female protagonist, who is a anti-terrorist squad member disarming a bomb with bear hands without any equipment. Of course, there are no separate bomb squads to do that!
Interestingly, Raghuram who is a righteous officer suddenly turns rogue only to save his love interest Sia. I mean if all officers were that lovesick, what would have happened to our politicians. Not to mention the dress code for ATD consists of Bharadwaj (Arunoday) sporting crisp formals where as his sub-ordinates, Emraan and Sia move around the office as if dressed for a movie date. Keeping your logic aside, this film is a cliched David vs Goliath tale where the good wins over evil.
The dialogues by Shagufta Rafique are not exceptionally dramatic but not very impressive either. The final scene punch of “Main woh Mr X hoon, jo kanoon tod kar insaaf karega”, does make up for a good end. What is disappointing is that the makers don’t even try to build any kind of suspense, it is predictable from the word go.
Arunoday Singh’s character of Bharadwaj, the lead villain is too sketchy and done-to-death. The love story too is a repetitive one and I am honestly tired of seeing Emraan woo the same kind of women in all films. At a point in one of the love songs, I realized that if it were mute, I would have passed off the same film to be a Jannat or any other Bhatt film with Emraan. It is as if, the writers were relying on Emraan’s invisibility to work more than the content and thus I would say the script of the film is as invisible as Mr. X in the dark.

Mr. X Review: Star Performances

Emraan Hashmi is an actor with a lot of potential and time and again his choices disappoint me. After a disastrous Raja Natwarlal and Ungli, he is back as Mr. X but thanks to the mediocre script, he fails to show any improvement. I would say, he is his usual self and this superhero movie is not gaining him much!
Amyra Dastur as Sia Verma and the female lead in the film is nothing but a typical Bhatt film heroine who looks confused in majority of the frames and in the rest she is trying to prove hard how decent her dialogue delivery is, only to make it clear that she still needs some acting lessons. I would have loved to see someone strong play her role and somehow after Baby, I can imagine Taapsee Pannu doing a great job for this character. Amyra just seems too delicate for her role.
Arunoday Singh as the lead antagonist is oddly fitting. He seems devilish and cold-blooded with his body language but I wish the dialogues given to him were more meaner.
Tanmay Bhatt does a cameo in the film as he plays Emraan’s friend and colleague. We miss seeing Bhatt doing his comic act. I wish he would have cracked a few quirky lines.

Mr. X Review: Direction, Editing and Screenplay

Vikram Bhatt’s penchant for creating sci-fi dramas seems never ending. This time he tries to give us a superhero vigilante drama and sadly that too does not work. One big problem is that Mr. Bhatt forgets to make sure that the script at hand is refined and solid. With a wobbly script like this, he cannot expect the audiences to watch a mushy romantic saga like Aashiqui 2 that is also a superhero film.
Even though the effects are quite good for Bollywood standards, considering that invisibility is the power, the makers should have stayed away from making them similar to those of Hollow man. Paint and fire extinguishers being used to see Mr. X was just far too predictable. Also stretching a movie that is already low on content value over two hours is unacceptable. Towards the end, I had lost all interest in whether Mr. X succeeds at seeking revenge or not. The lighting effects used to show the transformations of Mr.X were good an a particular scene where he moves between shadow and light is a great execution of VFX.
The songs by Ankit Tiwari and Jeet Ganguly are blended well and those who are fans of the music will enjoy it. Also Khamoshiyaan star Gurmeet Singh appears in one of the songs for a performance.

Mr. X Review: The Last Word

Mr. X is just another Bhatt film. Driven by love and revenge, this superhero film is least on the superhero quotient and high on drama. This time for a family audience, I am not sure even kids who have now grown up watching Avengers and X Men would like this. I am going with a 2/5 for this film.

  • and much awaited Super Machi song, filled up with all stars, no dance just okay

Done with the movie, fell short of expectations but  average stuff, few comedy scenes and sentiment scenes are good. Review in few minutes.
Rating: 2.75/5
Basic Plot:
Viraj Anand (Allu Arjun) is son of Satyamurthy(Prakash Raj) a rich business man, Satyamurthy suddenly dies and Viraj comes o know that Sathyamurthy loyalty has costed their family 300 Crores and suddenly all close people start to move away from Sathyamurthy family including Viraj’s fiancee , Hero accepts the difficulties before him and starts a new life, he falls in love with Samantha and comes to know that he will get some property if he can bring back the properties of Rajendra Prasad which are with Upendra, story shifts to Tamil Nadu where hero gets locked by Upendra, there he comes to know the twist about reason for his fathers death, how he manages to save his family and his love is the rest of the plot.
Performances:
Allu Arjun has shown some matured performance, his comedy timing was good, but his performance in emotional scenes is main highlight, he carried the film on his shoulders, he should have taken care of dances which people expect most from him.
Upendra looked fresher on the screen, but was wasted, his character was thought to be important, but there was not so much weight for his role, he did a good job though. Samantha was asusual, Nitya’s performance was good, her scenes with Samantha and Bunny worked out, Sampath was routine, Brahmanandham, Ali, Vennela Kishore, Rajendra Prasad etc were wasted.
Technicians:
Music score by Devi Sri Prasad was okay, on screen “Seethakalam”, “Subhalakshmi” and “Chal Chale” songs were good, BGM was good.
Camera work was top notch especially in the first half.
Editing could have been better, Dialogues were not upto the mark.
Production Values were great, film looked rich and colorful.
Director and His Film:
Trivikram had a strong point to present and has got all needed resources, but he failed to utilize them, clearly he was not in Attarintiki Daredi’s hangover, but looks like half cooked film from him, emotion was not clearly presented, cast was not properly used, it looks like he was in a hurry to wind up the film without dealing with  it completely, Trivikram’s films are generally known for comedy but this films clearly lacks that.
Upendra was wasted big time, most of the cast was not utilized properly, he failed in engaging audiences with his storytelling, few scenes in the first half and emotional scenes in the second half were good, but over all Trivikram’s mark was clearly missing. If anyone has to be blamed for this wasted opportunity it will be Trivikram himself, he should realize that heavy emotions are always good, but should be presented in an entertaining manner or else they might bore the audiences.
Plus Points:
  • Allu Arjun’s action
  • Cinematography
  • Production values
  • DSP’s BGM
  • Few emotional scenes in the climax
Minus Points:
  • Direction
  • Flat second half
  • Editing
  • Dragged and slow narration
  • Improper use of star cast
  • Lack of wow factor
Overall:
Son Of Satyamurthy, might fall short of expectations especially with the hype surrounding it. It lacks the repeat value as well as feel good factor, first half is passable while second half falls flat, climax is savior though, Trivikram’s half baked direction and improper utilization of star cast make it just one time watch movie.
Might do okay business in A centers, but might not work in mass centers.
You can try it once, it might not completely entertain you but at the same time will not completely disappoint you.

Temper – Powerful Cop Drama.........................ROUTINE STORY

Story:-
Daya (NTR) is a fully corrupted police officer who gets transferred to Vizag. There he joins hands with Walter Vasu(Prakash Raj) and treads the corruption route.
Twist in the tale arises when Daya’s girlfriend(Kajal) gets accidentally kidnapped by Walter Vasu. This incident makes Daya very angry and he goes against Vasu and his empire.
During this time, Daya also comes to know that there is a bigger motive behind this kidnapping. What is that motive ? Will Daya manage to find out the truth and punish the culprits ? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-
Credit should go to Puri Jagan for showcasing NTR in a never before seen avatar. Right from his look to the powerful character he has portrayed, NTR looks a million bucks and is the major highlight of the film. The way he has balanced his character especially during the climax is out standing. NTR’s body language and dialogue modulation are at peaks during this part. You will see a new NTR in this film and credit should go to him for portraying such a diverse role.
Prakash Raj once again proves his mettle and gives a decent performance. He looks perfect and all his confrontational scenes with NTR have come out extremely well. Kajal looks gorgeous and provides the necessary glamour. Madhurima is quite good in her role and brings in the necessary impact.
Posani is superb as NTR’s sidekick and evokes awesome emotions throughout the film. Second half is the heart and soul of the film and runs on a emotional mode. The court episode during the climax evokes thumping applause from the audience and has been handled quite effectively. Chemistry between Kajal and NTR is outstanding.
Minus Points:-
First half of the film is just average. Had Puri brought in some basic entertainment values during this part, the output would have been even more effective. Kajal has absolutely nothing to do in the second half.
Story of the film is quite routine and gets predictable. Subjects like these have been dealt many a times in the past. Sonia Aggarwal is wasted in her role.
Technical Aspects:-
Anup Ruben’s music is decent as all the songs are peppy and have been shot stylishly.Production values are superb as the makers have not compromised on the visuals. Camera work is top notch and showcases Vizaq beautifully. The way NTR has been presented in a all new attitude is pretty good. Lyrics are quirky and gel with situations quite well.
Dialogues need a special mention as they have been written with a lot of impact. Screenplay of the film is below average in the first half and only picks up during the second half. Puri Jagan is at his supreme best when he deals with stories based on cops. The way he has extracted performance from NTR is excellent. Puri also manages to showcase the problems in the society in a interesting manner and narrates the film quite crisply.
Verdict:-
On the whole, Temper has everything which NTR fans can eagerly look forward to. NTR’s stylish look and super strong characterization are major assets of the film. If you can ignore the routine story, you are in for an emotional entertainer which is going to become a perfect comeback hit for Young Tiger.
