Prema Kavali Review – Sai Kumar son Movie

Prema Kavali Movie Review  – Prema Kavali Review – Prema Kaavali Telugu Movie Review: Sai Kumar’s son Aadi made his debut with Prema Kavali. Vijay Bhaskar who earlier made many hit films is roped in as the director. Like all star kids first films, Prema Kavali focuses on commercial ingredients to woo all the sections of audience. To showcase all the skills of the young kid in particular. Hence, Prema Kavali is clichéd, utterly routine, occasionally boring and has a pathetic ending. Let us uncover the details of Prema Kavali in this review…

Story:

Prema (Isha Chawla), who is a daughter of Jail Superintendent (Nazar) gets harassed by one person (Shafi) who has the photos of Prema kissing Srinu. Who is Srinu (Aadi)? He is a classmate of Prema who falls for her in the first sight and tries to woo her all the time. But being a conservative girl, Prema doesn’t respond to his love. Then happens this kissing incident which turns out to be a nightmare of her life. Who is Shafi? What is the intention behind his harassment will be revealed later.

Analysis:
Vijaya Bhaskar, who is yet to bag a hit sans Trivikram struggles on the script front yet again. The story is too silly to believe. Linking a tender love story to terrorism is absurd. And taking it seriously and pushing it to the maximum is ridiculous. Screenplay is so bad that we almost forget what happened prior to that particular scene and doesn’t have a clue about where it is heading to.

First half is strictly Okay with routine college comedy and few songs. It gets on to your nerves towards the intermission. Second half too runs on the same note. Vijaya Bhaskar’s desperate attempt to be a Trivikram all by himself boomeranged big time in this movie as he tried to link this love story to terrorism. He followed the pattern of Trivikram’s stories by introducing comedy characters in between. Trivikram has the knack of linking the characters perfectly to the story but Vijaya Bhaskar lacks it completely.

Therefore, the so called comedy scenes involving Brahmanandam and MS Narayana looks forced and unfunny. That lengthy scene has nothing to do with the story. By then the film is set for a climax and director who is completely unaware of that goes for a picnic. Climax is the biggest minus in this film. If anyone wants to pass this off as an average fare until then would fail it mercilessly for that stupid climax scene. NCC cadet chasing ISI terrorist all alone will stand out as one of the stupidest ever scenes in the history of Telugu cinema.

People couldn’t stand that absurdity and walked out of the Premiere show (which is not a common scene) will tell the whole story for you. Prema Kavali is a complete waste of time and not even worth watching once.

Performances:

Sai Kumar’s son Aadi is fine. His performance for a first timer is Okay. He has the boy next door looks and can dance well. However, he should have waited for another couple of years as he looked too young to be a hero. Isha Chawla doesn’t have the looks of a heroine. Not many would figure out that she is the lead lady when she appears for the first time. She sizzled in a rain song.

Sindhu Tolani turned into a character artist with this movie. She is good. Dev Gill is wasted. Shafi is routine. Nazar is standard. Ali tries to pump in some energy. Brahmanandam and MS Narayana are not needed.

Technicalities:

Prasad Varma tries too hard to imitate Trivikram. His rhyming dialogues are painful on ears. Chota K Naidu has gone wasted. He did his best to make this film stylish. Anup Rubens music is peppy but lacks soul. Background score is average. Editing by Gowtham Raju is not up to the mark. Production values are rich. The film looked lavish in each and every frame.

Vijaya Bhaskar fails as a writer and director. Looks like Trivikram should make time to put this man back on track.

Plus Points:
- Production values and publicity

Minus points:
- Story
- Dialogues
- Screenplay
- Direction

Final Word:
Prema Kavali offers nothing new except marking the debut of Sai Kumar’s son. Catch Bangladesh vs. Ireland match than watching this movie.

Vastadu Naa Raju Movie Review

Story:
Venky (Vishnu) is an aspiring kick boxing champion who is waiting for that one big chance. Narasimha (Prakash Raj) is a local dada who aims to become a politician. Luckily for him Home Minister (Sayaji Shinde ) son (Ajay) loves Narasimha’s sister Pooja (Taapsee) and he gets a chance to become politician if he gets his sister married to Home Minister son.

Narasimha and few others come to a conclusion that Venky and Pooja are in love. But the fact is they don’t know each other. Due to few situations Narasimha believes that Venky is Pooja’s lover and he tries to kill him. Venky then kidnaps Pooja to teach a lesson to Narasimha. What follows next is left to your imagination.

Analysis:
Vastadu Naa Raju script has a novel point and the director did a fine job to narrate this story without any confusion. The narrative is not bad until the interval point. Despite few lows it holds the audience interest until the intermission. But the director didn’t have proper content at his hands to drive the film in the post interval portions. Hence he included unnecessary songs and fights which irritates the audience. He kept on dragging the film without any good reason and finally ends it on a predictable note. The film could have finished in just over two hours as the storyline is wafer thin. But the director took his own time and made a film which is almost 2hours 45 minutes. Hence, the film gets on to audience nerves as they continuously stare at their watches to wait for the minute it ends. Except for a simple but novel plot, Vastadu Naa Raju is uninteresting and boring to the core.

Performances:

Vishnu did an okay job as the lead man. His dialog delivery lacks the punch and when he mouths lengthy dialogue it will only irritate the viewers. He is no Mohanbabu and frankly saying not Manoj Manchu either. He has very limited skills and should still work a lot on his looks. Looking too lean doesn’t help him in anyway. Even the energy levels are down compared to the other youth brigade.

Taapsee looks beautiful in few scenes and pale in few. She should hire a better stylist. Coming to her acting skills, she can’t emote a bit. Bad lip sync is another drawback. Prakash Raj is usual. So is Sayaji. Ajay’s role is poorly etched. Brahmanandam’s comedy falls short of expectations. There is nothing great about the rest of the star cast.

Technicalities:

Gopal Reddy’s cinematography is standard. The film is made on a low budget and it is evident in many scenes. Gopal Reddy did his best within the limitations. Manisharma’s music is Okay. A couple of melodies are good on ears. Background score is fine. Dialogues written by Marudhuri Raja and co are pretty ordinary. Not a single line is worth remembering. Every dialogue and one-liner is heard in some or the other film. Production values are just okay. Vishnu has surely learnt a lesson about spending in a right way after Saleem’s debacle. He didn’t spend much on Vastadu Naa Raju and hence it should doesn’t leave a big hole in his pocket.

Hemanth Madhukar’s direction is ordinary at any level. His sense of humor too is low and hence the comedy didn’t click in the most part. His screenplay in the second half puts a great test for the patience levels of audience. Hemanth should at least learn to make slick films if not good films.

Plus Points:

- Basic plot is good
- A couple of songs

Minus points:
- Dead slow narration
- Poor second half
- Dragging climax

Final Word:
Vastadu Naa Raju is another run of the mill flick which doesn’t offer anything good to remember. It will only suck the patience out of audience and leaves them weak to walk out of the theaters. You can wait for the DVD if you are planning to watch it. Don’t keep the DVD player remote too far as you will be using fast forward button than the play button.

Erra Gulabeelu

Nadunisi Naaygal Review – Erra Gulabeelu Review – Nadunisi Naigal Movie Review: Gautam Vasudev Menon who is undoubtedly the best craftsmen at his work has a special liking towards psycho thrillers. He often makes films in this genre and Nadunisi Naaygal is another thriller from GVM. It is dubbed into Telugu as Erra Gulabeelu and both the versions were released today. Here is the detailed review of Nadunisi Naigal…

Story:

Veera (Veera) is a psychopath who traps or kidnaps girls and kills them. He was sexually abused by his sex starving father as a child and he was later taken care of by Meenakshi (Meenakshi). However, Veera is often haunted by the images of his disturbed past and in this process he develops lust towards Meenakshi, who treats him like a son. When Meenakshi marries some other person, Veera turns violent and kills him. In this attack, Meenakshi gets burnt and left with an ugly face. Then Meenakshi and Veera go on a killing spree together. Veera has a soft corner towards his classmate Sukanya (Sameera Reddy). He gets caught by the police when he kidnaps Sukanya and starts revealing about his past to the cops.

Analysis:
This movie has a strong message about how sexual abuse at tender age could show nasty effects on young minds indulging them to take the violent path. When the director chooses such a concept few disturbing images and adult content is ought to be there in it. So, this movie is strictly an adult flick.

Gowtam Menon chose a spaced flashback narrative to make this thriller work. The first half is racy and arrests you. But the second half heads on a routine path where the thrill factor takes the backseat and the psychopaths multiple personality disorder is highlighted.

Background score plays a big role in thriller films. But Gowtam Menon boldly made this film without BGM. He also shrugged off the weird camera angles. This is purely a content based thriller and when there is no music to support it will definitely show impact on the viewer. The shock factor is completely missing and the film looks weak without it. The sound affects are aptly used and covered up the lack of BGM to some extent.

This type of roles and concepts are not alien to South cinema audience. We have watched better thrillers than this and hence it remains as a failed experiment.

Performances:

Veera’s performance as a psychopath is very good. He did a good job to show different body language at different ages. Sameera Reddy looks older to Veera. She did a fine job. Deva is Okay. Samantha has a blink and a miss role. Meenakshi gives a stunning performance especially with that weird makeup on her face.

Technicalities:

Manoj Paramahamsa camera work is splendid. As there is no BGM in the movie it is an extra burden on cinematographer to keep the audience interested solely with his camera work. Manoj comes out in flying colors in this test. Editing by Anthony is another asset. The film is slick and well paced especially in the first half. Editing technique has kept the interest levels alive. Production values are good.

Gautam Vasudev Menon’s work as a director is flawless. Had he concentrated on the script it would have been a well made film.

Plus Points:

- Cinematography
- Editing
- Veera performance

Minus points:

- Not so new concept
- Lack of thrilling moments
- Predictable climax

Final Word:

You can watch it if you are a fan of thriller movies. Not a bad one and not a good one either. We have to wait and see how multiplex audience laps it up.

Gaganam Review

First things first! Gaganam is not a regular masala movie and people who crave for commercial potboilers can safely stay away from it. This movie is going to get excellent reviews from every corner as it is a sincere attempt to serve the audience with a non-regular cinema.

Gaganam is path breaking movie in many ways. Find out the reasons in our Gaganam Movie Review…

Story:

A plane is hijacked with hundred passengers on board. The five member gang of terrorists demands to set free one of their best man Yousuf Khan. Major Ravi (Nagarjuna) with his crew comes to take control over the situation. However, Home Secretary (Prakash Raj) who despite having full respect on Ravi doesn’t give him a positive nod as there were no orders from the Indian Government. They agree to release Yousuf Khan for the sake of hundred lives. But things go out of everybody’s control and the hijackers kill two people. In a do or die situation, Major Ravi starts operating his mission. How does he get his mission accomplished forms rest of the story?

Analysis:

Gaganam is a full fledged hijack drama which doesn’t deviate at all from the main plot at any instance. This is probably first of its kind thriller movie on Tollywood screen. There are no songs or so called commercial ingredients in Gaganam. Moreover it has a star hero in the lead role. The director sincerely tried his best to keep the audience glued to the screen with his screenplay.

Understandably, Gaganam starts off on a slow note as the director takes some time to get to the first plot point. Despite being path breaking in many ways, Radha Mohan stuck to basics of storytelling. He strictly followed the three act structure to narrate this story. He got everything right in each of the acts. However, the narration slipped down here and there as the director tried to sprinkle humor to provide some relief to the audience amidst the serious and engaging drama.

The comedy part is intelligently woven into the narrative. Especially, the satires on commercial heroes and their fans is fun to watch. There is ample entertainment in the film even when the proceedings get serious. Radha Mohan should’ve taken care about showcasing the emotions of hijacked passengers. They are not shown effectively.

Barring few flaws, Gaganam is an interesting watch all through. Interval twist and the last hour is simply superb.

Performances:

Fifty plus and still super fit Nagarjuna suits the role of a commando to the T. He gave a subtle but striking performance. The star should be commended for taking up such role which doesn’t give him any scope to showcase his heroics. Nagarjuna once again proves that he is a true trendsetter.

Prakash Raj’s role is brief but he leaves an impression with flawless performance. Poonam Kaur has a better role than Sana Khan and she did a fine job. Vijay, Bharat Reddy, Harshavardhan are good in their respective roles. Brahmanandam’s comedy is Okay. Prithvi as Shining star and his fan provided good laughs.

Technicalities:

KV Guhan’s cinematography is the major asset for this movie. Major part of the film is limited to two locations. But you hardly notice that it is confined to limited locations due to Guhan’s superb camera work. Background score is riveting in key scenes and just okay in few. Editing is fine. Dialogue could’ve been better. Production values are good.

Radha Mohan is the real hero for this film. He has thrown a challenge to himself to keep the audience interested for two hours without any diversions. He came out in flying colors. His work is splendid in the second hour and it holds the key for Gaganam’s performance at the box office.

Plus Points:

- Interval twist
- Edge of the seat second half
- Thrilling drama
- Nagarjuna’s simply superb performance
- Cinematography

Minus points:

- Few unnecessary scenes involving the passengers
- Slow pace in the first half
- Dialogue

Final Word:

Gaganam is a must watch movie for all the movie lovers. It may not go down well with the masala craving audiences but will definitely strike the chord with the class audience in A centers. It is simultaneously made in Tamil as Payanam and both the versions kept together, Gaganam should rake in good profits if the audience are in a mood to encourage novel attempts. Go for it.
