Daruvu Movie Review

Story:

Bullet Raja (Raviteja) is an orphan who makes out a living by stealing and other wrongdoings. His life turns upside down when he fall in love with Swetha (Taapsee). Her fiancée, who is a ferocious criminal kills him. After an interesting encounter with Yama Raja (Prabhu), Bullet Raja becomes home minister. How and what happens next is left out to your imagination.

Analysis:

The story of this film not anymore new to our audience as it was a time tested one. Right from Late NTR to Chiranjeevi to Jr. NTR most of them tried and tested this formula. A socio fantasy with Yamalokam backdrop has been proved successful and it is Raviteja’s turn to tease Yama Raja.

Although the storyline is predictable, the director tried to make it interesting by adding political angle to it. However he didn’t get the screenplay right. The film has too many ups and downs in the narration. Subplots were not properly developed.

Heroine goes missing for more than an hour and that shows that director failed to get all the elements in balance. Raviteja did his best to keep the flow moving. Despite all his efforts Daruvu is a letdown in terms of entertainment. It is too loud for our tastes.

Performances:

Raviteja gave an energetic performance. He was a treat to watch in the role with grey shades for some time. His dances and antics will please fans. Taapsee was okay. Prabhu was neat as Yama. Jayasudha, MS Narayana, Sayaji Shinde and others were fine. Brahmanandam provides comic relief as dance master Vidya Balan.

Technicalities:

Vijay Antony’s music was loud on ears. Tunes were not catchy. Background score was the biggest drawback. Dialogues were average. Cinematography is good and Editing is adequate. Graphics were okay and Art department complemented it well. Director Shiva failed to make the best use of Raviteja’s talent and energy. Had the character was etched well Raviteja would have taken it to the next level. Director messed the script up.

Final Word:

If you are looking for Raviteja’s film without much logic and story, Daruvu may appeal to you. On the entertainment front it fails to deliver the goods.

Gabbar Singh Movie Review

Story:
Gabbar Singh (Pawan Kalyan) comes to a village named Kondaveedu and there he gets in the way of politically influential goon Siddhappa (Abhimanyu Singh). Due to Gabbar Singh, Siddhappa’s political plans and dreams get shattered and he seeks revenge. What happens between them is the crux of this story. Besides, there is romantic angle to it in the form of Bhagya Lakshmi (Shruti Haasan).

Analysis:
Story of this film is so simple and formulaic. So there’s nothing to rave about on that front. Gabbar Singh is about attitude of the lead man. Well, who can show attitude better than Pawan? He simply rocked the screen. His fans are going to have a blast for sure.

Harish Shankar did many changes to Dabangg script and most of his changes work. Screenplay is super racy in the first half and moves at a decent pace in the second hour. First half is filled with humor all the way. It breezes off in no time and the mood at interval point will be ecstatic.

Second half is good too, but drags a little bit in the penultimate scenes. Finally a happy ending and everyone would come out with a smile on their face. Gabbar Singh is a complete film that will cater to all the sections. Especially, fans will be mighty pleased to see Pawan Kalyan in full blown powerful role. Antyakshari scene in particular had the audiences in splits.

Performances:

Pawan Kalyan does one man show from start to end. He simply steals the show whenever he is in the frame and whoever might be with him. Pawan’s punch dialogues will bring the audiences repeatedly to the theaters. This time Pawan Kalyan tried to please his fans and common audiences with few dance moves. Nice! Shruti Haasan is cute and she performs pretty well. Beautiful! Abhimanyu Singh is sensational and Suhasini adds the sentiment that will appeal to female audience. Ali, Brahmanandam and Jaya Prakash Reddy are hilarious in few sequences. Ajay did a meaty role. Kota Srinivasa Rao excels. Everybody has put in their best efforts. Great!

Technicalities:

Devi Sri Prasad’s music is the second lead after Pawan Kalyan for this film. Every song is marvelous and Harish Shankar’s picturization and the choreographers work added more value on screen. Songs itself are your money’s worth and rest is bonus. DSP’s background score is stupendous. Cinematography and Editing are impressive. Dialogues by Harish Shankar are one of the major highlights of this film. He did an excellent job as a director too. This film will surely take him to the next level.

Final Word:

Pawan Kalyan fans have been waiting for so long to see their idol in this type of role. He took more time than needed. But finally he has delivered the goods with Gabbar Singh. Watch it!

Premalo Padithe ...........

Story:

Venu (Sri) is a poor boy who works as a helper at a road side hotel. He falls in love with Jyothi (Urmila Mahantha), who works as servant maid in an apartment. When Venu decides to express his love for Jyothi unexpected things happen and she will be hospitalized and Venu is taken in to police custody. There is another love story in this film between Nitesh (Mithun Murali) and Aarthi (Manisha Yadav). This love story is the root cause for the trouble that has happened in the lives of Venu and Jyothi.

Analysis:

This film has realistic characters that we come across in our daily life. However, the setup doesn’t look fresh as most of the Tamil films these days have been dealing with such backdrops and characters. Director tried to make the narration look interesting by adding crime element. He partly succeeds in it.

First half of the film is very boring and uninteresting. The scenes between Venu and Jyothi don’t have the spark to excite the audience. Narration is very flat until interval and later the pace picks up with addition of contemporary elements like making MMS videos of teenage girls.

These scenes are poorly done and the film runs on a dull note. Slow screenplay has been one of the biggest problems for this film. Interesting things happen in the pre climax scenes and like every Tamil film, it ends on a tragic note. It is high time that Tamil filmmakers realize that they are being extremely monotonous. This type of tragic films might work with Tamil audience. Our audiences are no longer interested to watch Tamil flavored tragic romantic tales.

Performances:

This film is made with newcomers and they have done a pretty decent job. Urmila who played Jyothi delivered a superb performance. Sri is perfect in the role of a slum boy.

Technicalities:

Vazhakku Enn 18/9 is made on a low budget. But the quality of the film is very good. Cinematography stands out. Background score is nice. Editing is adequate. Director Balaji Shaktivel’s direction is decent, but there are many problems with the script, which lacks commercial appeal. Balaji previously made Premisthe on same lines and now he adds a crime element to that age old love story. Freshness is missing in this film. Entertainment is non existent.

Final Word:

If you like films with tragic endings then you may give a try at your leisure. Majority of Telugu audience like to watch entertaining films and therefore the success of this film remains doubtful. This film doesn’t have much to please the audience who watch out for feel good films. It may work in Tamil, but in Telugu, Premalo Padithe needs very good word of mouth to survive for few days.
