Dum Maro Dum Movie Review

Story:

Fox Star Studios and Ramesh Sippy Entertainment’s Dum Maaro Dum (A) is about the drug menace in Goa. Vishnu Kamat (Abhishek Bachchan) is summoned by the chief minister of Goa (Bugs Bhargava) to wipe out drugs, prostitution and other vices that have spoiled the fabric of Goa. He begins work with two assistants, Mercy (Muzammil S. Qureshi) and Rane (Govind Namdeo). In his clean-up exercise is caught Laurie (Prateik) who was being used by Ricky as a carrier to smuggle out cocaine from the country. Laurie, who lives in Goa, was on his way to America for further studies. His friend, Ricky, had brainwashed him into carrying an assignment of cocaine with him, for a fee. Initially reluctant, simpleton Laurie had agreed and now, he was in the police net after getting caught red-handed.
Joki (Rana Daggubati), working for a rich businessman, Carlos Biscuita (Aditya Pancholi), realises that Laurie is a mere pawn and he pleads with ACP Vishnu Kamat to go soft on him, guaranteeing him that he was innocent. He tells Laurie to reveal all but the latter does not spill the beans as he fears for his family’s security. Joki’s concern for Laurie is born out of the fact that five years ago, his girlfriend, Zoe (Bipasha Basu), had similarly landed in the police net while she was training to become an airhostess. Joki’s boss, Biscuita, had used his influence to get her out of jail within days but after that, he had forced Zoe to become his own girlfriend in spite of being a married man. Joki had been a helpless spectator then.
Anyway, even while ACP Kamat’s cleaning-up exercise is on, he realises that Biscuita is himself a drug dealer but the kingpin is one Michael Barbossa. The job now is to find out who Barbossa is and that’s not an easy task because not many seem to know his identity and also because he uses different aliases in different cities.
Does ACP Kamat succeed in his mission? Who is Barbossa? Is he alive? What role does Joki play in tracing Barbossa? Does Laurie muster the courage to help the police? What about Zoe? Answers to all these questions are revealed in the climax of the suspense thriller.

Star cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Bipasha Basu, Prateik, Govind Namdeo, Aditya Pancholi

Star Performances
Abhishek Bachchan plays the ACP well. He makes the character believable but what happens to his character towards the end may not go down too well with a lot of people. Rana Daggubati does a fairly good job in his debut attempt. He has screen presence. Bipasha Basu is reasonably nice. Prateik is endearing and acts with aplomb. He will be loved by the youth, especially the girls. Aditya Pancholi does his villainy in his usual style. Govind Namdeo leaves a mark. Anahita Nair is alright in a brief role as Laurie’s girlfriend. Muzammil S. Qureshi’s acting is lovely. Vidya Balan adds glamour in a brief special appearance. Deepika Padukone is enchanting and enticing in the title song-dance. Bugs Bhargava, Gantois Gomes, Mariah Pucu and Gulshan Devaiya lend the required support

Mr Perfect Movie Review

Prabhas who bagged a decent hit with his previous film Darling is back again with the same genre of film Mr. Perfect. It is a brand Dil Raju film targeted at families and female audience. Let’s get into the details in Mr. Perfect review…
Mr Perfect Review – Prabhas Movie
Story:

Vicky (Prabhas) is a guy who wants to live his life according to his wishes. When his parents fix his marriage with Priya (Kajal), who Vicky feels is a complete mismatch to him. And he rejects the proposal. He finds another girl Maggie (Taapsee) who is identical with his character. But her father (Prakash Raj) says that he is not a perfect groom for his daughter. He challenges that he can impress none with his character and ideology. Vicky takes up the challenge. But does he succeed in it? Find the answer on silver screen.

Analysis:

Mr. Perfect is a film that is developed on a single point that we have to see that everyone around us is happy rather making ourselves happy. Like every Dil Raju film, this one too preaches about the family values and human bonding. Although the basic idea is good the film failed on the execution part.

There are not many heart touching scenes in the film. Every character compromises at one point or the other. Realizations, discussions, relations, experiences… this forms the screenplay of this movie. Everybody gets into preachy mode all the time and bores you to the core. Situations are forced and therefore the film lacked soul. We hardly find any scene which is at least near to ‘perfect’, leave alone perfect.

Saying so, it is for family audiences who don’t mind watching same old dramatic scenes time and again. If you are game for clichéd formulaic films, then Mr. Perfect is just for you. If you are looking for freshness in theme and characterizations then two hours boredom is guaranteed.

The film falls short on comedy aspect too. Brahmanandam and Raghu Babu try too hard to make you laugh. The protagonist’s arguments about a perfect life are pretty confusing. He actually compromises every time but people around him say that he has not compromised and was correct! Phew!!

Another biggest drawback is the pace of the film. It is snail paced and lacks energy. Scenes during the climax drag with too many conversations. On a whole, Mr. Perfect has too many defects. Only the formulaic presentation and family drama should help it to sustain at the box office.

Performances:
Prabhas performance is fine. He did his best to pull off a character which is low on energy. Actually, this role didn’t suit his persona. Prabhas is best when he is active and energetic. Uttering pages of dialogs and using less muscle isn’t his forte. Kajal looked good in few scenes and bad in few. Inconsistent makeup is the main drawback. Her performance is good though. May be she is getting typecast these days.

Taapsee is Okay. She dubbed in her own voice. Prakash Raj did this type of role in every alternate film. He looked bored. Murali Mohan and K. Vishwanadh scare you every time they open their mouth. They keep on preaching moral values of life.

Brahmanandam is routine and Raghubabu is loud. There is nothing much to say about the remaining star cast.

Tehnicalities:

None of the songs are good on ears. Devi Sri Prasad’s tunes lacked novelty and energy. Background score is partly good. Editing by Marthand K. Venkatesh is standard. Cinematography by Vijay Chakravarthy is fine. Dialogs written by Abburi Ravi are good in parts. One can notice that he is just rephrasing Trivikram’s dialogs.

Director Dasarath once again failed to recreate his Santosham magic. This film is heavily inspired from many hit films and Dasarath simply relies on formulaic scenes and content to score a hit. This film doesn’t do any good for him as there is not a single scene that has shown director’s brilliance.

Plus Points:

- Family drama
- Few entertaining scenes in the first half

Minus points:

- Boring screenplay
- Preachy dialogs
- Dragging second half

Final Word: Mr. Perfect is a clichéd film which is targeted at holiday crowds. It might work on the commercial front but the content is very poor. Go for it if you don’t mind watching same old family drama yet again.

Mr. Perfect Review rating: 2.75/5

Theen Maar Review

Teen Maar is one of the most awaited films of this year and why not? There is no need to say what Pawan Kalyan is capable of and how great his star power is. He had his tough times but he was not down and out at any instance in his career. Pawan Kalyan always rocked when he did films in comedy and romance genre. So, Theen Maar has far more reasons to raise the expectations level. Here’s the review…

Story:

This is a remake of Bollywood hit Love Aaj Kal and the Hindi movie title itself says what this movie is about. It is about Love… then and now. Everything has changed with time and human emotions too. Love is not an exception. How love and lovers used to be three decades ago? How they have changed with time. Arjun Palvoy (Pawan Kalyan) and Vasumathi (Kriti Karbhanda) played the love pair of eighties and Michael Velayudham (Pawan) and Meera (Trisha) are the love pair of current times. Arjun has to face the wrath of customs and has to convince parents who feel that love is a crime. Michael has to overcome his confusion and realize his true love towards Meera. That sums up the story.

Analysis:

When said as two different stories, Theen Maar doesn’t seem like an interesting film. But when those two stories are clubbed together it turned out to be an engaging and entertaining fare. Thanks to the director that he didn’t include many characters and too much melodrama to make this film suitable for our masses. He has stuck to the core material of the original and the rest was done by Pawan Kalyan and Trivikram.

Teen Maar starts off on a dull note. Technical errors like ‘spot dubbing’ to Michael’s character marred the proceedings. When things seemed so gloomy and when the film’s graph is going down at a rocket speed, then entered Arjun Palvoy’s character. And from then on the movie went to the next level and it was a total fun with few hiccups in the middle. Climax is the heart of the movie and that is where Theen Maar scores brownie points.

Pawan Kalyan fans are sure going to have ablast with this movie. Families and youngsters have lots of elements to feel it worth a watch. We have to wait and see how masses likes this.

Performances:

Pawan Kalyan is at his best in enacting two different roles. He is extremely energetic as Micheal and powerful as Arjun. This is easily one of his best performances to date. His Italian is fun. His dances are fine. He excelled in the role towards the climax and proved that he is at home in doing such roles. This is an out and out one man show from Pawan. Trisha did her part well. However she looked old in few scenes. Kriti Kharbanda is fine. Care should have been taken on her makeup. Paresh Rawal is good in his role. Mukesh Rushi and Sonu Sood are believable. Ali did a cameo. Rest of the star cast supported the flow of the story.

Technicalities:

Dialogues by Trivikram are an asset. His subtle changes in the screenplay are superb. Trivikram gave his midas touch to this film especially towards the finale. Mani Sharma's music is another bonus. Almost all the songs are good on screen. J. Vincent's cinematography is good. Editing is fine. Only major problem is with the sound mixing during the first thirty minutes. Spot dubbing has not been done in a proper way. They should have safely shunned it for a better quality.
Production values are rich. Direction by Jayanth is smooth. He didn't do anything silly and stuck to the basics. He has once again proved that he can handle the remake films well.

Plus:

- Pawan Kalyan performance
- Trivikram dialogues
- Music

Minus:

- Spot dubbing errors
- Heroines
- Few screenplay hiccups in the second hour

Final Word: Theen Maar lives up to its tag line 'celebration of love'. This is the best film of Pawan Kalyan post Kushi. Even better than Jalsa content wise. Pawan has a winner on hands. Holidays and family crowds should lap it up.

Theen Maar Review Rating: 3.25/5

Banner: Parameswara Arts
Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Trisha, Kriti Kharbanda
Music: Mani Sharma
Cinematography : Jaynan Vincent
Story: Trivikram Srinivas
Producer: Ganesh Babu

Shakti – Movie Review

Touted as the highest budget film on the Telugu screen with a whopping Rs. 45 crore, shot in a record number of locations, the most-awaited film of Junior NTR's Shakti has hit the screens Unfortunately, neither the production values nor the story has done justice for the money spent on the film. Read on for Shakti review.

Story:
Mahadevaraya (Prabhu) is the Union defence minister and his father (SP Balasubrahmanyam) is from Rayala’s dynasty. Their forefathers give them a miracle sword and a Jwalamukhi (a diamond), which help them open the Maha Shakti Peetham, the highest powerful place than the Ashta Dasa Shakti Peethams across the country. The road to the temple is invisible so as the temple. It will come to light once in 27 years and the invisible temple is being safeguarded by one Rudra (NTR). Some Egyptians wanted to get the Trishulam in the temple to revive the lives of the mummies of their forefathers and become supreme. An Egyptian Pharaoh Mukhta (Sonu Sood) decides to bring the Trishulam at any cost and dies in the hands of Rudra and Rudra dies in the hands of Janakiram (Jackie Shroff), who was the minister with Mahadevaraya’s father. He snatches the powerful sword and kills Mahadevaraya’s parents too. However, the diamond remains with Mahadevaraya. What happens next should be seen on-screen.

Performance:
NTR as Shakti is okay. He has maintained good comedy timing and has done some impressive dances though the tunes are not that melodious. However, the second role (Rudra) played by him did not suit him at all. Ileana has just filled the glamour slot. Neither, she had any scope to perform nor has anything to do with the film. Manjari Phadnis, who played the wife of Rudra is also wasted, as she too had no role to play but to give birth to Shakti. Despite a huge star cast like Sonu Sood, Jackie Shroff, Sayaji Shinde, Prabhu, the director has failed to make use of any of their talents. SP Balasubrahmanyam’s role is little better, as he narrated the story in a perfect voice instead of taking a voice over by some others. Pooja Bedi is atrocious, as she failed to emote at all. Daniel’s character is superfluous and no human being could do such things. Comedy department has taken a backseat in the film.

Technical:
When it comes to the technical crew, Mani Sharma should be blamed first for giving such a poor audio for such a high-budget film. Neither the songs have the melody to listen, nor their presentation on the screen. The choreography of songs is also unimpressive. Dialogues by Satyanand are unimpressive. Cinematography by Sameer Reddy is good as he could capture the beauty of various locales of the shooting. Editing by Praveen is average. Director Meher Ramesh should take the blame for the poor narration of the film and the exaggerated storyline

Remarks:
The audiences just can’t understand how the director has convinced a senior producer like Aswini Dutt or a seasoned artiste like NTR on the link between Egyptians and Shakti Peethams in India. In just one word, Meher Ramesh has made the audiences in toto ‘April Fools’ on the ‘All Fool's Day’.

Cast: NT Rama Rao, Ileana, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Prabhu, Vinodkumar, Nazar, Sonu Sood, Sayaji Shinde, Daniel, Brahmanandam, Jackie Shroff, Krishna Bhagwan Ali, Venu Madhav, Pruthvi, Srinivas Reddy, Pooja Bedi, Manjari Phadnis, Manju Bharagavi, Pragati and others.
Credits: Music – Manisharma, Dialogues – Satyanand, Cinematography – Sameer Reddy, Editing – Praveen, P, Producer – Aswinidutt, Story, screenplay and direction – Meher Ramesh.
